    Hi Everyone,

I just (finally) upgraded from IE 6 to IE 8, and I notice that there's one and only website that I visit regularly that shuts down as soon as I open it.

    It's http://www.ipwatchdog.com.

Whenever I land on it, I get some sort of exception error ( "IE encountered a problem and will now close ").

Actually, landing on the home page is fine. But whenever I click on any of the stories on the blog, I get the exception error.

I went into event viewer but saw nothing I could understand as helpful -- just an "application error" of event # 1000 with no further explanation. There are no errors listed under the IE section, only the ones I just mentioned under applications.

I use XP Sp3, if that helps.

Thanks for any insights you might have.

Does the same happen when you start IE8 with no Add-ons? (All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons))

It will be of no comfort to you to learn that I have no issues with that site on IE8 in Windows 7 :)

    Three things to try ....

Empty temporary Internet files - I have IE set up to do that whenever the browser is closed.

Run IE with no -ad-ons and see if an add-on is conflicting - as I recall in XP a right click on the IE desktop icon gives that option (not in Win 7 though) Otherwise Programs > Accessories > System Tools - it's there somewhere.

Try running IE8 in Compatability mode for that site - icon to the left of the refresh button (only shown when compatability mode is available for a site) and Page > Compatability View Settings. Check the first 2 boxes and be sure to visit Windows update to install the Compatability View list and other IE 8 updates which you may not have.

Bingo! It was the last suggestion that worked -- viewing that site in compatibility mode.

Have no idea what that really means, but it worked and I thank you -- once again!

Compatibility with earlier versions of IE - not all sites are coded for the latest version.

Glad to hear you got it sorted :)
