I have an ASUS G60VX-RBBX05 laptop. The other day I noticed my battery was running out, even though I had my ac adapter plugged in. I started examining the wire and I think I pulled the wire too hard or something, because when I pulled it out of the socket and plugged it back in, it started making this popping noise. Anyway...the battery was about to run out, so I had to shut down.

I bought a new ac adapter online, got it today and plugged it in. Nothing happened when I pressed the power button. I took the battery out and pressed power, and it started up. After Windows loaded, I tried to put the battery back in, but the lcd went black, the battery light blinked red 3 or 4 times, and the laptop shut down. I can only get it to turn on if the battery is out, and if I put the battery in after it's turned on, the lcd turns off immediately and the system shuts down within 10 seconds.

I don't know if it's just a bad battery or something more serious. I've only had this laptop since early December. I do leave it on and plugged in almost 24/7, which I know isn't good, but still...the battery shouldn't be done with so quickly, right? Which makes me think maybe it's something else, but I've no idea what nor do I have any clue how to fix it. I don't want to spend 100+ dollars on a new battery until I'm sure that's the problem.

    Can anyone help?

You may have damaged the connector internals and it sounds like there is a short inside the laptop. May need to take it to a service tech unless you can carry out repairs yourself. Neil.

Backup your data (Favorites, email, documents, pictures, multimedia, etc.) to a thumb drive or DVDs. Take the laptop back to where you purchased it, it should still be under warranty. Demand they replace it or repair it.
