    I have 3COM 56K USB External modem.

What is the ARQ light and what causes it to work?

Mine is flashing on and off and when it does this, It won't go to another page even if the globe is spinning in IE6sp1. When there is no flashing on and off, the modem goes to whatever page I ask for.

Also did it with IE6 before sp1.

When I sent this message it wouldn't continue. As ususal I had to disconnect and go online again. Now the ARQ is on steady and I will send this again.

    ARQ
Automatic Repeat Request. A general term for error control protocols which feature error detection and automatic retransmission of defective blocks of data. See HST(, MNP, and V.42.

This came straight off the US Robotics (the same as 3Com) support site under Networking glossary. Now what is causing the problem I don't know but I would double check all my Internet connections settings, software and drivers for the modem. Did this just start or has it been doing this since the modem was installed?

Another idea is to disable the error correction in the modem settings. Just another thought.

Yeah, I've been to the 3com/usrobotics site. Asked them in support request. They blew me off saying its not the modem.

I turned off the error correction and no help. Also disabled built in NIC and thought that worked but lasted about 1 day then back to blinking.

I'm up on Mozilla now and all is well.

Thanks for reply. I wore Brett and myself out on this one before.

I'll think of something even if it's wrong.

Do I understand you in saying that you had this problem using IE as a browser but now you are using Mozzilla and the problem has disappeared? If so I would think that it was related to IE maybe a security setting. These are all just guesses because I really don't know I usally start changing one thing, see if it works, if not reset the change & make another change.

I went to the USR site because I was curious as to what ARQ really meant but hey if Mozzilla works keep it I like it better than IE anyways.

Well, I prefer IE, especially on this BBS.

I am certain the problem is not IE itself otherwise the world would be reporting the same problem. It happens only periodically.

I'll get to the bottom of it yet.;)

    Thanks:)

???? Not sure what is causing the problem but I am curious as what the fix is. It would be much simpler if it did it all the time.

I went to another forum and found that a lot of people are complaining about this problem. They are all using cable modems with IE6.

Another thing to muddy the waters....The last two mornings, my modem power lights are very dim. I have to smack the modem and the lights come up strong and the modem works. I hate to go get another modem now that I am about ready to do the DSL thing... I guess I'll just put up with it for a while.

Ity would really be simple if Mozilla and Netscape didn't work so well.;)
