I.m having two problems both generating microsoft error.
    1. I re-installed microsoft security essential but get an installer box telling me "The feature you are trying to use is on a netwerk resource that is unavailable ".
It refers to an installation package 'mp_abmits.msi' which is shown in the 'Use Source box'. When I locate and click on the relevant file nothing happens. If I cancel that box saying it cant complete the installtion wizard. If I cancel that box I get an error message 0x8007064c

    2. I installed Office 2010 Beta. Ay first I didnt like it and deleted it but in doing so I think Ive done a lot of damage. My old office 2007 wont work and I no longer have the setup disk. Ive re-installed 2010 and its all ok excep that it tells me I must activate the download. I get the activation wizard which tell me
'an unspecified error has occurred please try again later. error 0x80070001

Im pretty sure these two matters are related. I went to ms help with these messages but couldnt get the answer.

    Could someone please advise

As an edit the MSE install error has changed to 0x80070643
Ihave checked around and can say that I have windows installer 4.5 set at manual.

    Hello cozzielex,

    One step/problem at a time.

I will try to address the first issue:

    Three Possible fixes below:

Error code when you use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site to install updates: "0x8007064C "

Sounds like this is something right down the tool "Dial-A-fix " alley: READ "PAST BOARD POSTS" CAREFULLY
    past post on this tool

It shouldn't take to many before you will have a good understanding of this tool. It will address all the issues you are having.

    -----------------------------------
Error code 64C is for an installation path or source which could not be found. As by your notice the "D:\[Random Number]" is an temporary extraction location for an Update, Setup or Installation. This usually occurs when the Update for MSE passed through Windows Update and does not complete successfully.

To help you resolve this issue we need to reinstall MSE. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup tool from this location first:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

After it installs Look for an entry in "All Programs" for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
A Window should appear. Select ONLY Microsoft Antimalware from the list then hit Remove.
    Close the window.

Now you need to open Task Manager and then look for any of the following entries:
    MsMpEng.exe
    MSSecEs.exe
    MSIExec.exe
Right click on each entry and then choose to End Process.

    Now follow the instructions here:
    1. Download the MSE installer for your Operating System from the Home Page: http://microsoft.com/security_essentials
    2. Save the file to your Desktop. This will ensure that you can find it easily after the download is done.
    3. Now press the Windows Key and R all at the same time. This will open the RUN dialog box.
    4. Make sure that you delete any entries inside the RUN box first. Now drag the MSE installer into the RUN dialog box.
    5. Depending on your Operating System, after dragging the file into RUN it should appear as any of the three below:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Desktop\mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-xp.exe "
    C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Desktop\mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7
    C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Desktop\mssefullinstall-amd64fre-en-us-vista-win7.exe
    6. Now put a space in between the whole line and put /U as seen below:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Desktop\mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-xp.exe" /U
    C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Desktop\mssefullinstall-x86fre-en-us-vista-win7 /U
    C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Desktop\mssefullinstall-amd64fre-en-us-vista-win7.exe /U
    7. Hit OK.
    8. Now install MSE using the same package you downloaded on the Desktop.

Thanks that very helpful. That has resolved the MSE issue, I'll start a new thread for the Office 2010 office activation problem.

    Hello cozzielex,

Do you mean, one of the steps above has helped you to install MSE? Could you be a wee bit more specific and explain what you used and did.

Your most welcome and thank you for the update.

    Hi Goddez, you're an angel!
The problem you solved was with the installation of MSE. I just took the steps you recommended as far as using the installer cleaner, then the installation worked fine.

As regards the problem with Office 2010 activation there was a file missing from my registry which I was able to resolve at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/916180?p=1
