As this may be construed as hardware or software I am putting it in the Vista section since that is the OS I have:

I am using windows Vista SP2 with an Acer AL1706 monitor and NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 graphics card:

Recently the icons on the right side of the screen are being truncated. I looked at the menu options on the monitor using the buttons on it, but all I see is a way to MOVE the 'desktop' / visual area but not how to re-size it (i.e. expand/skew). If I just move it to the left THEN the left icons are truncated. The visual area is too wide now, I need to 'squeeze' it.

I also looked into the Nvidia Control Panel but cannot find a way to do this either. It also only has an option to MOVE the screen to the right/left, *no* RE-SIZE option.

What I need is to be able to do is re-size the screen width to a certain size, then move it and size it again to the edges properly. How can this be done?

First work out if the problem is with the monitor or graphics card. Take the monitor to another computer or attach another monitor to your computer.

If you make settings in one area, they may have an effect on settings in another area. You need to be able to retrace your steps or reset to defaults so that you can start again.

Did this happen "all of a sudden "? If so, you try doing a System Restore back to before it happened.

If it seems to be the graphics adapter, look at updating the drivers at the manufacturer of the graphics adapter. NVIDIA don't manufacture graphics adapters, only the chipset. Getting driver updates at the NVIDIA website would be my second choice. (Getting driver updates via Widows Updates could be a further option.)

I haven't experienced that problem. Try to look into it's cause rather than overcoming it with settings.
