    Hello to all,

Ns 7 (compact) I have adobe Reader 5.0.5 on my machine. Was working but now seems to have stopped.

Can not open .pdf file from WEB.

pdf files will open if I have Adobe open and running.

About : plugins - shows that nppdf32.dll is installed and (it is in the Plug in Directory. )

Would appreciate any hints that will restore Adobe Reader.

Problem came up after I un-installed

    "(Adobe Acrobate ver. 4.0)

    Thanks to all in advance.

    Regards captjim

Adobe 5.0.5 is incompatible (yet) with N7. I belive the problem lies with uninstalling 4 version, because, I have no problem with reading PDF files in N7, but I was always just installing new version of Adobe om a top of old one, so I guess new version retained some elements from the old one, which still allows me to use 5.0.5 with N7.

    broni,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I think I fixed the problem. I read someplace that if you install a FULL version of Acrobat it will take over control. (this is what I had done....FULL version of Adobe Acrobate and then it took over opening WEB pdf files with version 4.0) I uninstalled FULL Ver 4.0 and that is where it stopped working.)

An uninstall of Adobe Acrobate Reader 5.0 and then a re-install of Reader 5.0 seems to have restored everything to the proper place.

Anyway all seems to be working now.

Bottom line seems to be that if you have a FULL version of the product it will use that as the default Reader.. Even if you have a later READER installed.

    Thanks again for the reply

    Regards: captjim

I have (full) Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5, and I have no problem having it with Netscape 6, 7 at all.

    Antony,

    Thanks for the reply.

I had Acrobat reader 5.0.5 (worked fine)

Installed Acrobat Ver. 4.0 (full version).

Thereafter when I tried to acces a pdf on WEB, it would open Version 4.0 even
though I had Reader 5.0.5 on machine and was using it before with success.

Anyway I did as I said and now Reader 5.0 is working O.K. Altjhough I beleive that if I install FULL ver. 4.0 that it will then become the default pdf reader.

    Regards, captjim

Could it be that the last "acrobat" installed is the one N7 uses?

I remember I asked in Adobe's forum, I was told that once I have full version of Acrobat installed, the plugin (for the browser) will use the Full version, not the reader.
However, if I insist to use Reader as the browser's plugin, I will have to go through all the complications of changing registry. I then gave up.

( I was having Acrobat 5 (full) and Reader 5 at that time, and I wanted to use Reader 5 for speedier reason. )

And I won't suggest you upgrade to Acrobat 5.xx, the only feature I saw is the self-sign security.

    Hope this extra information help.

    Antony,

Thanks for the additional information. I was just about to experiment a little, but after hearing what was from Adobe Forum, I think I will leave well enough alone.......
