What programs did you use to do the scans with?

I went in and turned off services in the start up config and desk top loads OK turn on services and desktop won't load . Right after you log on the screen turns blue and I get a error ding very fast repeatedly.

Turn on half the "services" (or do you mean Startup programs?). If it crashes, turn them off, turn on the other half (test). Keep halving the number of suspect services until you identify the culprit.

    services

OK I had 146 services listed. I put a check on them in groups of 25 at a time. would reboot and all is well at only 25 checked at a time . When I got to the bottom of the list i worked back words adding 25 at a time and rebooting until i got to the last 10 . I selected the last 10 with all other 136 selected and it would not boot so I loaded them 2 at a time till I got to ATI external event and with all the other services selected it hangs so it seems to have a conflict with another program. Any thoughts. I have disabled it for now.

That program appears to be for ATI "hotkeys ", but most people won't use it. (Nobody seems to know how they work.)

You should be able to leave it disabled.

If you look at updating the ATI graphics drivers in future, uninstall the current ones (Control Panel -> Programs and Features) and get new ones from the manufacturer of the graphics adapter's website or from the ATI website.
