I wanted to move my network card to another slot. ( D-link)

PII 300, WIN 98 SE, 128 meg RAM, network card for DSl modem only.

When I reboot the computer I get this message.

"Setup cannot load the installer (netdi.dll) for the Net hardware being installed. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance "

So, I put it back in the same slot and it works. I thought I would try to unistall it completely, then change slots, but even when I try to uninstall it I get the same message.

I took it completely out, checked the system and it wasn't found. I put it back in, it picked it up but immediately gave the same message.

I checked on the netdi.dll and it is in the System directory.

One other thing, I also get the same problem with my Dial-Up Adapter. I tried to uninstall it or even check the properties and I get the above message. I don't have a modem in anymore so I can't test it. But, the network is working or I could type this. :)

Question, if something is really buggered up in Windoze, does anyone know how to manually take out all references to the card i in the Registry. I would like to somehow get it out so it can be reinstalled properly without trashing windoze.

    Thanks,
    Joe ...

    My first thought.

Do you possibley also have an Internal Modem in place and activeated ?

If so try removing it and/or disabling it in the device manager.

Internal Modems may ( or even will ) cause problems for a network card.

There is no internal modem. I had since removed my modem when I upgraded to DSL service. It has no reference to modems, but the Dial Up Networking drivers are still installed. I had no reason to take them out until I just tried to today.

It's not really the modem I care about. I just want to uninstall the network card. But I'm sure there is a glitch and I would have to remove the drivers manually.

I hope that article helps. I'm hoping if I rebuild the driver file it may get rid of the problem. The only thing is, it says to remove drivers you don't want from the Device Manager, and that's the problem. I can't remove them. Well, I will try it tomorrow after I get my work done. Let yas know :)
