I tried 2 identical installation disks and 4 different drives used to eliminate the variable that the issue is a drive or disk
I'm trying to install office xp pro It was previously installed on both of these pcs with vista as the operating system. I had spyware issues and was forced to reformat each hard drive in each pc.
Now i get this error when trying to reinstall There are no previous versions installed on either pc anywhere

It would be some coincidence for both installation disks to be at fault, but not impossible.

Have you tried copying the installation CD to the hard drive and installing from there?

Yes, i did try that, I get a different error when trying to install from the desktop, but it's still a no, it will not work that way either.
I also installed this program on two other pcs with xp as the operating systems, so there are no issues with the disks, it did install and function normally as it was intended.
I've looked around other microsoft sites and it is a known issue, i just haven't conversed with anyone that knows a solution.
I'm told this occurs with all versions of microsoft office. Being that it was previously installed on both of these pc's, maybe i just haven't gotten the update that would fix it, as of yet
