I have a customer with a BENQ DQ60 DVD writer.
All of a sudden, in his machine (XP Media Center "“ SP3) it will not burn CD’s. It sees the disc as full in Windows Explorer. Nero 8 and XP’s native burning utility just eject the disk when he starts the burn. We have tried several new CD-R’s "“ all TDK Certified Plus disks.
I pulled it from his machine and put it into a machine I have (XPP "“ SP3) and it works fine with either Nero 8 or XP’s native burning utility. The customer supplied me with a selection of disks that he has tried to use.
Any thoughts as to what might be wrong?
    Thanks

First, try going to Device Manager and uninstalling the DVD/CD drive. It will be automatically reinstalled when you reboot.

If you have the Nero 8 installer handy, try uninstalling it, test, then reinstall it.

After that I might suspect the filters, but try those first.

Look on the drive manufacturer's website for a firmware update for it. (OEM system manufacturers, like Dell, call them "drivers ".)
