Somehow I downloaded a STUPID program that had GATOR in it. I deleted & UNinstalled everything that I could. Now when I use IE6 & go to a page that can NOT be displayed I am forwarded to a **** site that has a zillion more pop ups.

PLEASE tell me how I can fix this problem. I hope I don't have to reinstall my OS.

    TY

See this thread for a temporary workaround.

See whether Ad-aware puts things right. If not, please post the name of the site to which you are being redirected.

Also, have a look at this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

In the right-hand pane, what is shown as the Default_Search_URL?

You can also install and run "Spybot - Search & Destroy ". It picks up spyware, etc. that Ad-Aware misses. I know Gator is on Spybots remove list. Download from Here

Lower your browser's security settings and visit this page (the uninstallation should be automatic).

Glad that you've fixed it :)

See here and here for some information as to how to prevent this from happening again (click on "Client Side Security" in the second link).

Hey RoadRunner, glad Spybot worked for you. I have found it's a great program. Frequent updates as well, run the "online" function frequently for the updates.

Here's a link to a forum that discusses Spybot in one of the sections. Scroll down the forum till you find the "Spybot" section. Can give you some tips and info. if there are any problems with Spybot. Spybot Forum

    It just ain't true, Boo,
Either way, the games will play,
    S&D will leave 'em be,
So ignore the lies and zap the spies,
    And play away without delay!
