I have information from HP, telling me how to clean the cradle rod and another piece of information also from HP that says not to touch the cradle rod.

Anyone out there know whether I can safely clean it? If so, can I substitute 3 in 1 oil for the anderol they recommend using?

    Absolutely not!!!

Throw away that three in one. It is terrible lubricant and will make every thing it touches sticky.

What you need is turbin oil. Any hardware store will have it. Also it is the only thing to use for oiling shaft bearing. I don't know if the "anderol" is a brand name or not....No 3-in-1 :)
