Hello all. I am not a computer person - but this is my second new netbook in two weeks, and each time i have tried to install norton, i have had problems, called norton who by their remote control tech staff have destroyed the computer. i just returned a toshiba thinking the problem was the toshiba; but now a similar thing happend with lenovo

this time, the norton tech took over and could not uninstall norton goback which is what he thought was wrong w the norton product malfunction. the computer is now stuck in a loop where everytime it boots up it asks you to disable norton, and then on yes, it freezes at 0%; on no, it goes to windows which then says it cant find autoch, and will skip it, and then brings you right back to the norton choice.

    any ideas?:(:(

Can the comp boot in Safe Mode? (tap F8 key during boot until menu appears and use arrow key to select Safe Mode) If so, once in Safe Mode, you can remove the registry entries that cause Norton software to load at boot. GoBack will load from the Winlogon or Winlogon/Notify key.

The Lenovo should also come with a restore DVD that wipes the drive and loads everything just as it came from the factory. Do that and Norton will be gone.

Afterwhich, install the free Microsoft Security Essentials software, it's much better than the Norton antivirus and the default Windows firewall will suffice. GoBack is unnecessary software, Windows 7 has built in disk imaging.

Start\run\regedit\H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify. BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST.

    Hi lauren33,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Please tell me which Norton product and version you are trying to install, as well as the version of Windows you have installed. Also, was there another Norton product on this computer prior to you trying to install the current product?

    Thank you,
    Mike

Norton has a removal program that you can download. It will remove any and all traces of Norton software. You may have to run it twice. I would suggest that you look for McAfee in your registry also. (go to find and type in McAfee) The problem may be a conflict between two programs.

Hi Lauren33, Did you get a CD with the OS on it with your new laptop?
Have you tried using that to setup/repair start your laptop?

When installing any Anti-Virus software, it pays to close all Programs and disconnect from your Internet connection and shut down all other Firewalls/Spyware you may have installed.

Once you make the installation, you can then reconnect and open your other Programs. I'm assuming this laptop was set up with Windows7 but did the supplier put anything else on the system? Neil.
