Windows XP Home, not completing boot up, shuts down as blue lights travel accross strip, got into Safe Mode, tried starting from earlier date, no success, this PC has worked ok before, I am told, but it began to freeze and/or would not shut down, it has plenty of hard drive free space.
When it shuts down by itself the monitor is still on. I have managed to get it to shut down in Safe Mode and I have tried uninstaling a lot of junk in the add/remove programs. But it will not remove/uninstal a whole stack of Cannon stuff, or defunct printers. Should I be looking for a driver problem?. The owner wants it cleaned of all her files and phot's etc, and to give the PC (cleaned basic version) to her son.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes, thats the next option, but just as an exercise I am trying the recovery console, doing a dskchk /p & /r at present. /p found two errors, waiting on /r at the moment. I will post results.
