Laptop always wants to run ChkDsk before starting Windows

I did do a search first but haven't a clue what those are saying, so I don't know if they relate to this or not.

I always get a blue screen when starting my laptop and then it tells me there's a problem with NTFS and runs ChkDsk unless I cancel it, which I frequently do because it runs the report so fast I can't read it.

I have run another ChkDsk after logging on to Windows and it tells me the F file is unreadable, or missing.

I have also checked with my daughter, who is very computer literate and she hasn't been able to figure out why I'm getting that message or why my laptop always wants to run it.

Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

 

That has all the indications of a failing hard drive. You should get your valuable data backed up to separate media before doing any further diagnosing.

You can look in the Event Viewer under the Application section for an entry titled Winlogon. It will contain a summary of the Chkdsk session. If there are several and they all indicate the same error, the drive is likely going south.

Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

 

Thanks for the info...I do have almost everything backed up on an external hard drive and a couple of flash drives.

This is so not what I wanted to hear
