When I try to run Win XP Upgrade Advisor (on my Win 98, 533 PIII, 256 MB RAM, lots of disk space, . . . machine) I get a Fatal Error message of: "Setup cannot create a temporary folder. Setup cannot continue." I assume the same thing will happen at the system compatability check stage of installing Win XP, if I chose to do so. Any suggestions on what's wrong? Thanks.

Maybe this will help, maybe not. I had a machine that was a similer setup and had the SAME problem. I just kept doing it over and over.. and after about 50 times... it worked! I dont know why, but that is what I did and it worked! Maybe im just wasting space with this post.. if so, im sorry! Take care!

emartinez - if something worked for you in a similar situation, it is always worth posting. Always.

RickB - check your enviornmental variables. You should have settings for the temp file location for your user account (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp where %USERPROFILE% is in documents & settings and your username) and under SYSTEM pointing to windows\temp for both temp and tmp files.

    Enviornmental variables are located at

    control panel~system icon~advanced~enviornment variables button
