Is there a way in Win XP to block certain drives, folders, programs, etc etc from users who are not admins? Basically, I want to block my kids from accessing my Drive D and several Folders that contain important things I dont want deleted. How do I do this. An e-mail would help!!! pilotenrique@satx.rr.com

    Thanks,
    Enrique

If you're not already using the NTFS file system, you can convert to it using these instructions. Once on NTFS, simply right click on an folders or drives you want to limit access to and click the "Security" tab to set permissions.

Note: I posted here instead of e-mailing you so others could benfit from this post.

It is NTFS. Under the security tab, how do I tell it to only allow access to me, and no one else??

Remove anyone you don't want to have access and leave only those you want to have access. For example, add your username and give yourself "Full Control" access and remove all other users/groups. If your user account is in the Adminstrators group you could give that group access as well in case something happens to your user account (accidently deleted, forgot password, etc...) so you'd still be able to access those drives/directories.

For more information about setting NTFS permissions on files, see the "Best practices: Access Control " topic in Help and Support Center which is located in your Start menu.
