I have Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 installed. It periodically checks if updates are available and, if so and authorized, downloads and installs them. The Reader functions fine under 7.0 (originally installed under 4.75) and I have been ale to exercise all of its functionality with pdf documents..

When the reader was opened for the first time under 7.0, it checked for updates and said there was one available. When I authorized "update now ", a new browser window opened and I then received this error message from Reader: "unable to run browser (unknown error) ".

    Any ideas?

    Hi BirdieBob,

Have you enabled Install Software in Preferences?

    Preferences|Advanced|Software Installation

If you have adblocker.xpi installed, you will need to enabled:
    Preferences|Scripts & Plugins|Open unrequested windows

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    Hi BirdieBob,

According to Adobe, Netscape 7.0 is not supported by Version 5.0.5.

Version 5.1 shows the following system requirements:
    Windows:
    PentiumR-class processor
Microsoft® Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5 or 6 (Service Pack 6 recommended), Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
    64 MB of RAM
30 MB of available hard disk space (an additional 60 MB is needed temporarily during installation)
Additional 70 MB of hard-disk space for Asian fonts (optional)
    Web browser support
The Web browsers within which Adobe PDF files may be viewed are:
    Internet Explorer 5.0 to 6.0
    Netscape Navigator 4.5 to 4.77, 6.1
    America Online 6.0

    Ramona & Tranquilo:

Thanks for the responses--I was aware of the system requirements and download site. Even though 7.0 is not yet formally listed as supported, I assume that's a temporary issue.

It just seemed to me that this was a communication issue between reader and 7.0 that proably shouldn't exist or be handled any differently than in 6.X. The Reader fucntions within the browser and all other applications employing it without issue. The problem here is simply Reader being able to access Adobe's website through the browser.
