I really miss my PrintScreen in Win 7. I noticed while surfing that there are several free apps for it but I wouldn't want to use one without knowing if it's good software. Anybody know one that would do the same job as PS did in XP? Would appreciate help!

    Thanks, Twinkie

The printscreen key, by itself functions the same on all operating systems. It copies the screen as an image to the clipboard. One can then paste that screen capture into a graphics editor. One can also use 3rd party software that automatically loads the capture after the printscreen button is pressed.

I don't understand your issue with your printscreen key.

I expect it to immediately print the screen and not have to go to clipboard, paint or wordpad. That's the way it worked with my Win 98 and Win XP. It was so much easier that way. Just thought someone might know a way to get it back on Win 7.

    Thanks for replies, Twinkkie

    Hi Twinkie,

Call me a dummy cause my husband and I have had this argument more than once. I never remember having my print screen key work as more than a copy paste screen capture procedure, (at least not since dos bit the dust). My husband, on the other hand, insists it was a one button wonder tool at one time. I can see this as possible with a third party app or some sort of shortcut mapping tool but as a built in......possible, but for myself, have never had this.

I did find this software which will do as you request. While I haven't spent to much time seeing what my options are, in the app, I have tested it for one button "print screen" captures and it works as such. I had a bit of fun working with the convenient "right side, easy access" picture editing.

See if this is something your interested in, if not there are plenty more, for the picking.

Which isn't default. You had a program or Macro installed that send the output of PrtScn to your printer.

I appreciate all your answers. I never installed anything to make the key work in 98 or XP. Both of those computers were HP, (HP is what I have now also) maybe they included something to make it work. Anyway, I will try a prt scr program.

Thanks for all the help. You are appreciated.

There's a good chance HP installed some software to re-direct the output to your printer. OEM systems usually ship with a load of 'extras' :)
