I am having a hell of a time with this. The xp screen froze up again after I fixed those things in hijackthis, and now I'm having problems with Avira! It WAS active until I had to unplug my pc, and when I plugged it back in, avira guard said unknown!. I reinstalled it, and now it says stopped!! I'm about ready to give up. This is crazy.

Your computer should be pretty much clean by now, but you seem to have some other issues (hardware maybe?).

I suggest, we put this topic on hold and you start new topic at Windows forum.
Once your freezing issue is resolved, please return back here.

Well, I have another hdd that I'm going to put a clean install of xp on, and use it as my C drive. I'll use this one as a backup. Thank you very much for all of your help!

    At least....

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html)
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Okay. I'll do that. I have hdd health installed on this hdd and it says it's health is 51%, so it probably doesn't have much life left in it anyway.
The other hdd has 66%. One is a seagate the other samsung.

    Definitely.

Run manufacturer test. It'll tell you more.
