    Hi BBS,
New HP PC desktop and first time into Microsoft Works and the spell check failed with an error message. Works cannot finish spelling and grammar check. Files missing or corrupted. Fix this problem with a reinstall of works. Disk was not provided with the PC? What action is recommended? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

    Have a great day,
    Lis

Which OS? I'm assuming Vista or Windows 7.

Start Works. Go to Tools > Options and uncheck the box next to Background Spell Checking. Close Works.

This has been a reported 'fix'.

HP is lying. You have OEM software, support for that is HP's 'problem'.

Anyway, next thing you can try:

In Windows Explorer, navigate to Program Files > MS Works . Right click on wkswp.exe and from the menu choose Properties. Select the Compatibility tab, and under Compatibility Mode, check the box Run this program in compatibility for and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2), click Apply.

Followed the procedure with exquisite results. Arie with BBS strike again. Issue resolved. Case closed. Thanks so much.:)

However, the spell check on this page is non/op.? Should I download at www.iespell.com? Please advise. Thanks for your time.
