I'm back!!! (with more dumb questions)
I recentely upgraded internet explorer to 5.1 so I could install a newer version of Norton (had to have a higher version of explorer to do that) but when I did it also updated Outlook express. Now when I click on an link in a email in outlook to go to the web, it opens internet explorer instead of Netscape, which is what I use. How can I fix it so that when someone sends me a link in a email it will be open by Netscape instead of explorer?? thanks, appreciate any help

    Hi Rhody1,

Depending on which browser is your default Mail Program:

    In Netscape 7.0:
    Preferences | Navigator
    Default Browser
Click on "Set Default Browser "
    AND
    Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups
Enable: Use Netscape Mail as the Default Mail Application

    In Communicator:
With communicator CLOSED, locate the prefs.js in your
    C:\Program Files\netscape\users\(username)\ folder.

BACKUP PREFS.JS BEFORE PROCEEDING TO EDIT!

Open the file in notepad and find the line that reads:

    user_pref( "browser.wfe.ignore_def_check ", true);

Change the true to false and save the file.

If the line above is NOT there then you must ADD it to the prefs.js file after changing the "true" to "false "

Now when you start communicator it should ask; indicate "Yes" that it should become the default.

    OR....

    Open Internet Explorer
Click on 'Tools' on the menu
    Select Internet Options
    Click on the 'Programs' tab
At the bottom will be a white box that says:
"Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" - make sure the box is checked
    Close Internet Explorer
    Open it again
A small box will pop up saying that "IE V.X (X being your version number) is currently not your default browser, would you like to make it your default browser?" Click "No" and close Internet Explorer.

Open up Netscape and a box should pop up asking if you want to make Netscape your default browser, click "Yes" (if for some reason this box does not pop up, depending on your version) it automatically makes Netscape the default browser

Keeping in mind that the default Browser will always open links in Mail & Newsgroups.

    Ramona :D
