Resolved [How to get full version of Windows 7?]

My husband bought a new computer which was running Windows 7. I guess it is RC version.

How can we now get the full version of Windows 7. The only ones available appear to be upgrades from Vista or XP, neither of which is in his computer.

Can someone please give us some advice.

Yes but where can I buy it. I haven't seen a full version advertised and Microsoft is not advertising it on their website. We realise we were ripped off by the man who sold us the computer and he has since shut his shop. But now we have a computer running the trial version which is about to run out.
I need to know where I can get it from. I live in Melbourne Australia.

You can buy it from on-line stores (much cheaper), or go to a pc store. Harvey Norman will sell it, but at a premium.
Try places like Netplus, or pccasegear (online stores).

 

Did you buy it from a reputable dealer? How do you know it's the RC version?

Click on Start, then type CMD in the search field immediately above the Start button. Hit enter, and in the window that opens, type "ver" (without the quotation marks) and it will come back with the version number. If it says Version 6.1.7600, you're good to go, but that's still not evidence of a genuine copy of Windows. 6.1.7100 is the RC, and it shouldn't even work anymore.

Did you get a sticker attached to your computer with the Windows key? It could be on the inside of any documentation you may have received, too. Which edition of Windows did you receive, i.e. Professional, Ultimate, Home Premium?

Thanks for all your replies. I have been in touch with the Computer repair man who is getting me a copy of Windows 7.

I am unsure how to mark this resolved so if one of the moderators could do that please.
