Hello everyone - I haven't posted here for a long time.
    I'm running Vist Home Basic SP2 + IE8
My Favorites in IE had always been located at c:\user\rose\documents\my documents\favorites.
3 weeks ago I suddenly had a new location - the favorites button in IE was using c:\user\rose\documents\my documents\favorites\my documents\favorites. When I "Add To Favorites" the URLs are placed in the new location.
When I run %userprofile% from Start it shows the original location. In regedit, viewing HKey_Current_User or HKey_Local Machine Shell Foldes and User Shell Folders it shows %userprofile%\favorites. When I run shell:favorites it shows the new location. How can I get IE to use the original location?

Food for thought: Does it really matter where they are located?

%userprofile%\favorites does exist and it's is actually just a "pointer" to c:\user\rose\documents\my documents\favorites. Think "specialized shortcut ".

This is my mother's PC, and she is NOT computer savvy. She no longer has access to her older (5 yrs worth) URLs from the Favorites button in IE. Iwould like to be able to restore that access.

If have a copy (favorites.htm) of the original Favorites you can import them: File Menu > Import & Export.

Or just copy the contents of old Favorites folfer to the new location.

If you upgraded to Vista or Windows 7 from XP, you should have backed up your important data first, else they may be gone.
