My Computer says Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 in properties, the Windows SP3 doesn’t show up in my add remove programs, I have been getting automatic updates this week that tell me they can’t install SP3,
    This week has been:
    Automatic Update Detected "“ 1
    Express Install
    Initializing installation... done!
Installing Office XP Service Pack 3 (update 1 of 1)...
Next a Microsoft Front Page Window Pops UP that say
The feature you are looking for is on a disk, I click ok and
    Automatic Updates Says:
Could not be installed, were not installed, SP3 was not installed
, and My operating system version was reinstalled my a professional last fall I’m wondering if this is the root of the Internet Explorer problem.
What should I do about this?

In add-remove programs put a check in box that says "show updates" and if SP3 has already been installed it will appear in the programs list.

    Ah, Show Updates

    Hi There Tony,
Ah I see show updates, I didn't realize that before. Yes, it shows that there were a lot of security updates 2-10-10, one 3-11-10. SP3 is a .NET framework, right? I can't remember. If it is, there's a list of titles under 2.0 by Microsoft and Windows. There is nothing referring to service pack 3. Plently of security, hotfix and updates.
I think my pro buddy knew a way to reinstall XP with SP3 permanently on it, the op sys says XP SP3 under my computer properties. SP3 has been around for sometime, I know. Some kind of cache 22 going on here.

    Hi ljeanbeans
Just curious are you talking about XP Service pack 3 or Office XP Service pack 3, I would assume that the 2 are different? Do you have Office XP installed?
    regards
    Jac

If XP Service Pack 3 is slipstreamed into an XP installation CD of a lower Service Pack level and an install made from the slipstreamed disk then Service Pack 3 will not show as an update and will not be uninstallable. Only when SP3 is installed through Windows Update or from a direct download will it show up in Add/Remove Programs and be uninstallable.

I could ask my buddy, and should. I think that what PETEC says it was my techy friend did.
Now I'm just concerned about the automatic updates that XP needs due to nearly being obsolete.
I'll have to do this another say, I can't sit I just had an unexpected surgical procedure done today.

I'm sitting here now, so I'm back

    Hi There,
This is exactly what has been happening:
    Initializing installation... done!
Installing Office XP Service Pack 3 (update 1 of 1)...
Next a Microsoft Front Page Window Pops UP that say
The feature you are looking for is on a disk, I click ok and
    Automatic Updates Says:
Could not be installed, were not installed, SP3 was not installed

I'm not aware of how separate or interlinked the Windows versus the office updates are.

I mean, maybe it's just as simple as uninstalling front page.
    >>>>> I have the office suite 2002, and I just downloaded 2010 beta last week.
I bet that's crucial info. sorry I'm slow.

I have done NO research on updates and service packs, but I bet that if I don't at least skip this failed update I won't get anymore updates.

I really shouldn't be sitting here, but hey it's my window to the world. One day, I will get an updated system. I like xp well enough though.

Hi, if you Right click My Computer on your desktop then click on Properties, it will show if you have XP SP3 installed.
If you Click Start > All Programs then have a look and see if you have Microsoft Office, you will be able to see what software you have installed. Just my tuppence worth.
If you Google and install Belarc Advisor, it will show you all that is installed in your Hard Drive. Cheers Neil.:D

I think we can safely say we're talking about Office XP SP3 here, not Windows XP SP3.

    The problem was Frontpage 2002

I don't know why I couldn't download an office sp3 update because of Frontage, but I uninstalled it and the update download worked just fine.

Didn't know if you guys had anything else to add

I would've marked this as resolved, but I was wondering if you had anything else to add to the frontpage issue. I guess it doesn't really matter.
