I have a new laptop with win 7 home premium. It worked fine when I first fired it up. Now that it has added a little over 20 updates to win 7 I have a problem. When I put the computer into sleep mode ( I close down the cover), and then try to wake it up, the previous screen before sleep comes up with the cursor but the whole thing is almost froze. The cursor will move a little every now and then if I wait long enough. Then finally it gets itself into a blank screen and just sits there. Then I have to force it to shut down and reboot where I get the warning screen that it was shut down improperly and gives the choices for safe mode or regular mode boot up. I can choose normal mode and it boots fine like nothing ever happened, until I try to put it into sleep mode again. Ive done 2 complete recovers where it formats and reinstalls windows fresh and it works for a while until the updates are installed. Then it starts all over again. For now I did a 3rd recovery and turned off all updates and things seem fine, but I know this is not the way to go. Is one of these updates causing anybody else problems?
    Thanx!

Well, from the way it sounds, it may well be caused by an update. Only way to find out for sure is to install them one at a time, or, maybe two or three at time and try putting it to sleep after each installation. Once you find the problem update, uninstall it. It's a matter of trial and error. If you find the one that's causing it, you can post back and let us know which one and maybe we can come up with a solution for you.

well I guess thats what Im going to try, one at a time until I find it. I just hope that I can undue the update when I find it so it puts everything back like it was before it made the change. Im also thinking of setting a restore point for each up date. That sounds like overkill but just to be safe Im considering it.

You should be able to uninstall it. Also, though it doesn't hurt to make a restore point yourself, just in case, Windows should make a restore point automatically each time you install an update.

You are right. Installed all updates 2 at a time. restore point was made auto each time When I was all done the problem did not show itself. Then I proceeded to install some software one program at a time. The culprit is "The Printshop 22" dont know why, but their support says this software wont run on win 7 32 or 64bit. Ive even installed a patch they put out for using on Vista thinking maybe that would help but no luck. But the software so far seems to run and print just find except for this freeze glitch although I havnt used it too much yet. Only time will tell. I went back to previous restore point which removed it and all was well. So for now I have reinstalled it and turned off sleep when the lid is closed. Im not a programer but something this simple seems they could make a patch.
Thanx and I appreciate your help.
