I recently upgraded from IE6 to IE 8 and have had nothing but problems since.

Biggest problem is continual freeze-ups and inability to close a window. I was having some of this with IE6 but nothing to compare with what I deal with now. When it freezed up I have no choice but to do a manual shut down
and deal with the long re-start as the machine responds to nothing.

I downloaded this from Microsoft's download page. I have tried sfc /scannow,
PC Pitstop Optimize, Ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and none of this has helped.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi RickyD2. Try starting Internet Explorer without add-ons and see if you have the same issue. To start IE8 with no add-ons click Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). Does IE8 work normally now? If it does then open IE8 normally and click Tools< Manage Add-ons. Disable all add-ons and then re-enable the add-ons one by one until you find the culprit.

If that doesn't resolve the problem then try resetting the Internet Explorer settings. Follow this link, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
