I connected a 2nd internal HDD to the same ribbon cable as my master, to try out the 2nd drive. It worked, so I disconnected it, and now upon booting I am getting a black screen with the message "Press F11 to start recovery, missing OS" Nothing happens when I press F11. Here is where I messed up, I later discovered that the 2nd drive was also set as master. I tried resetting the BIOS, but that didn't work. Bios is detecting the HDD, but not the OS. Both cables are seated tight. Is there a way to recover my data/files from the crashed HDD or are they all gone forever?

Welcome to the board. I have use Active@ File Recovery http://www.file-recovery.net/ I used some of the free ones but this one worked best for me. They have a free trial you can download to see what it will recover. You will need to buy it to recover files larger than 64KB.

Try booting from your install CD to the Recovery Console and run the fixboot command.

Good freeware file recovery - Recuva

    You're Welcome :)
This really should be in a new thread ....

With only the old OS drive hitched up follow the instructions below ......
If you have a Recovery CD just boot from that.
