My computer (Asus TULC, 256meg SDRAM,40g Maxtor) every once in awhile will lose voltage for about 1 or 2 seconds. Sometimes its the 12v, then 5v, then 3.3v, and sometimes the CPU temp will spike at 212 degrees then drop back down to normal. I thought the power supply was going bad, so I put in a new one. Same thing happens. The voltage drop in only for a second or two and happens about once every five to ten minutes. I run the Asus monitoring program and it pops up when the system acts up. If the board was going bad, would it cause this to happen? Other then the power supply, I don't know what to check.

Sounds like you may have a cpu fan trying to die.

Run the box with the side panel off so you can see what is happening with your fans when the voltage drops. I assume you got the dust bunnies out of the box when you replaced the PS.

Is your monitor blinking? If so it could be the power strip you are using.

No dust bunnies.....clean inside. I've had the side panel off since yesterday to watch it. Everthing seems to be running okay. Case/cpu fans always running (off the mobo). When the asus monitoring program pops up saying the cpu temp spiked at 212 degress, I don't smell any burning and the cpu fan is running. The different voltages (+12, +5, +3.3) take turns dropping to 0 for 1/2 seconds every 4/5 minutes. Question, if the +12v drops to 0, shouldn't the computer shut down?
This is in a work office with 15 other computers, and only this one is acting up. Monitor doesn't flicker at all. ????

I would think that 212 ° F would lock up the computer or at least kill the CPU & the voltage drops should crash the PC I think. Has anyone tested the AC wall plug? Ther maybe something spiking the line If it's on a different line then the other boxs are.

    Just a thought

What it sounds like is the monitoring system you have is reporting in error. If the 12 volts were realy droping, your computer would reset and reboot.

If your computer is working ok then the report is wrong. Maybe reinstall the monitor from your MOBO disk?

I thought the CPU would fry too, and the +12v drop should shut down the computer. Never thought about reloading the asus monitoring program (forehead slap....). Will reload it when I go to work tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the help.

Let us know if that solves the problem. I would be amazed at a CPU running at 212° and not going into Thermo Nuclear Meltdown.

Okay, deleted and re-installed the asus probe program and ran it a half day with no trouble at all. It was a bad program. Whew, I thought I'd lost my cpu/mobo.
Now I have a extra power supply....
Thanks everyone for the time and effort.
