    Hi. My system runs Win XP SP3 and IE8 in Italian. When I select some text in a webpage and click the arrow to open the accellerators, for some reason I haven't worked out yet I get two separate "search on Wikipedia" options. This dupe doesn't bother me overmuch, but both of them take me to the Italian Wikipedia page.

    I have the Italian system onboard simply because I bought it here in Italy and I don't have a problem working in Italian, but I really want the accellerator to point to the English-language Wikipedia site.

    Is it possible to edit the accellerators? Where are they located in the C:\Windows folder?

    Have you tried .....

    Page > All Accelerators > Manage Accelerators?

    Page is the 5th icon after Home.

    Hi Pete, and thanks for reply.

    I hadn't found that option, so thanks for pointing me to it. It may help me remove one of the two duplicate accellerators; at the moment it lists only one of the two, so maybe I'll delete it and if necessary reinstall just one. Lower priority, but I'll check at some point and report back.

    But that's not the main problem. As far as I can see, unless I'm missing something obvious, there's no option to amend the page an accellerator points to. Take it as supplied or leave it. If I can't edit/amend a predefined accellerator, can I create a custom one? I don't see any option to do this.

    Having said all of that, I still do find the accellerators useful and use some of them often (especially Wikipedia and Google, others less frequently), so it would be neat to be able to customise them more.

    No, I'm afraid not. The WinSpark site explains how to create an XML accelerator file, but then says "upload the XML file to your blog" and "host it through an Install button ". But I don't have a blog, nor an Install button to host it even if I had.

    So I tried searching the C:\Windows folder (and subfolders) for (a) XML files, (b) files containing the text strings "wikipedia" or (c) "google ", in the hope of finding one to edit to point to a different URL. But none of the files I found looked anything like the sample XML file WinSpark provided, so I'm stuck.

    Hello g.watson

    Thanks for reading WinSpark.net. But unfortunately the post only specifies the way to create an accelerator not to edit the installed accelerator.

    and i got your problem that you want the Wikipedia accelerator to be searched in English.

    Follow the steps below

    navigate to following directory
    C:\Docuement and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\LocalLow\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Services

    you will find Wikipedia accelerator file (somthing like ******_wikipedia.org.xml)

    right click on it and open it with notepad..

    Edit the Preview action method and Execute ection method link to following.

    <os:preview action= "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/{selection}?printable=yes" method= "get" />
    <os:execute action= "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search={selection}&go=Go" method= "get" />

    and finally save it :)

    Hope it helps
    Regards
    Mr. Spark

    Hi, Mr. Spark, and many thanks for joining this thread! (And congratulations on a very interesting site, which I discovered thanks to PeteC.)

    I found the XML file, although it was not exactly in the directory you mentioned, maybe because I am running a different language edition. But it was still quite easy to find in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>. I edited it as you suggested and it worked fine.

    Many thanks again.
