Hi,I'm running WinXP Pro. My PS2 optical mouse left button seems hard to press and it's almost 7 yrs old so I bought a Logitech Pilot Optical Mouse USB as a replacement. It's supposed to be a Plug & Play device the box says.
When I removed the old mouse and plugged in the new mouse to an unused USB port and started the computer up the mouse pointer won't move.
I pulled out the USB connector from the port and attached it to a female USB to male PS2 adapter that I have and plugged it into the PS2 socket and restarted the computer, but the mouse pointer is still not able to be moved.
In both cases the new mouse is getting power as the red light under it is on.
I don't get any message windows popping up,just that the mouse pointer won't move. Please help.

Check Device Manager and verify the USB hubs have no exclamation points. If so, uninstall them and reboot to let Windows auto load their drivers

If usb hubs/ports are working, when you plug in a usb mouse Windows should auto detect it and either load or prompt for the necessary drivers. If no joy, use the add-hardware wizard in control panel.

you may also test your new mouse by plugging it into another computer. with that you may confirm that its your computer having problem.

    good luck
