My aunt's desktop PC has been reformated due to Brontok.A virus which I can no longer access the Safe Mode and the tools needed are detected by the virus so there's one option left. It keeps on rebooting everytime an EXE file is opened and it has something to do with the system.

I wanted to install some anti-virus from my 500 GB external Hard drive but when I plugged it in, it asks for a driver CD but I just reformatted the computer.

Hmmm...every other USB devices like Flashdrives works only my WD 500GB needs a driver.

Hmmm...What dould be the possible cause?

Have you remember my case from before when my sis has a virus and it turned all my folders into system folders and are super hidden? Perhaps it's that reason why my external hard drive needs something because the files are well hidden because of the malware from before.

I can't re-format my hard drive because I don't have access to another 500GB storage.

What do you think? Did I not cleaned the computer well or my esternal harddrive will not work at the moment?

Im going to test the second theory at my sis's laptop because I will re-format her laptop this weekend to see if my hard drive's built in drivers are not detected by the client computer.

Is there a link to where I can get a Windows XP USB driver?

When I re-installed windows XP on my aunt's, the driver CD only has 2 drivers on it - ethernet and the other one. I'll look at the driver of the motherboard tomorrow after I fix my sis's laptop.

    Regards,
    Chris

PS: I hope you're not confused at this topic.

After the format of your aunts pc - did you install all the Windows updates AND the chipset drivers for the mobo?

That's the thing, I didnt installed the chipset because the driver CD only has 2 drivers in it - ethernet driver and the other one I forgot.

And I can't install the windows update because it's a "you-know-what" situation. Im encouraging them to buy the Windows 7.

I'll look at it again tomorrow so I can fully finish maintaining their beloved computer. It's a 5-hour trip from our house so I can't update my topic from the Malware forum tomorrow.

Thanks for pointing that I should install the chipset drivers (and windows updates).

UPDATE: I think their PC is from scratch. I'm not too sure because all have different brand names

EDIT: They'll be living for Saudi so having that kind of a computer is reasonal. They can buy Windows 7 in saudi.

I'll update their computer tomorrow and hopefully I can resolve the problem.

    Thanks again for the advice.

    Regards,
    Chris

After re-formatting my sis's laptop, I was surprised that my WD HDD worked.

Maybe, I do need to install the chipset on my aunt's computer in order for my WD HDD to work.
