Every time I look down at my wifes computer, the light for the hard drive is blinking. I know there is a fix for this but can't remember what or where I saw it a long time ago.

Is there plenty of free-space on the HDD (particularly the Windows drive if there is more than one partition)?

    Could it be badly defragmented?

    Has the HDD been cleaned?

Test disabling scanning programs like antimalware (disconnect from the internet if you are concerned).

If it has an IDE HDD, check if it is running in PIO mode (or the correct UDMA mode).

The chipset drivers might be outdated.

You will need to tell us system details for any specific information.
