Have added additional hard drive as 'Slave', partitioned new HD, now I want it as 'Master' have changed jumpers to have new HD as master and old HD as slave, but I want to have the new HD master to be the start up drive with the current programme, and I also want to use the 'Slave' as a seperate file/photo store that only receives input/delete from me, not automaticaly from the master drive.

Pop in your Windows CD and install Windows and all of your applications to the new drive.

Morning Steve, just managed to get back to you, tried installing XP to new drive, it asked for Service pack 2 disc, inserted authentic disc in drive kept getting request to insert service pack 2 or press F3, repeated this 3 or 4 times so have not got passed 'set-up'. Spanner

That doesn't make sense. What type of cd are you using? A Retail XP cd or a copy of a cd?

    Steve,
Windows XP is a retail proper cd with authentic license, it upgraded ok from 98se on the main drive before, the Service Pack 2 is also an authentic original, in proper case etc. I have reinstalled the XP before when I had trouble with my ISP and decided to uninstall and start again. this is only happening because I want to install XP on a larger drive, now jumpered as 'master' and other drive as slave, no jumpers.

Have you ever gone down a road that ends, and
    you have to backup?

I have read this thread several times and decide
my advice is to set the jumper settings to "CS" or
"Cable Select" on both hard drives.

If it does not work on the first try, then swap the
ribbon cables that connect to the hard drives and
    try again.

If it does not work on the second try, then have
done something wrong and your second hard drive
does not have the proper boot sector information
    to start Windows.
