I use Seamonkey for my browser and install it using the zip file rather than use the installer.
Both the mail program and the browser appear at the top of my start menu but my problem is they are opening the old or previous version of those programs. The icon in the quick launch opens the current program but I would like to change the start menu so it opens the right program. Anyone know how to point those programs to the most recent ones?

That is not an option. When I right click I have these possibilities:Browse the Internet,SeaMonkey Options, SeaMonkey safe mode and remove from this list.
Your suggestion works with all the other items on the start menu.

Look in "All Programs" for the old shortcuts to SeaMonkey and change the target(s) there.

    Editing the "Start Menu "

    1) Start "Windows Explorer "

    2) Navigate on your "C:" drive to where you find the "Documents
and Settings" folder under the root directory.

    3) Double click on "Documents and Settings ", then double click on
"Administrator ", "All Users" or "Default User. "

    4) Most likely, you will find what your are looking for under
    "All Users. "

    5) Now, double click on "Start Menu. "

    6) Out of the three folders cited above in step #3, you will find
exactly what is displayed when your click "Start" at the lower left
    hand corner of your desktop.

    7) When you are in the "Start Menu" folder, you may add or delete
any shortcuts to the "Program Files" folder.

    8) If you want to add a shortcut to the "Start Menu" folder, then
go to "Program Files" and select what "executable file" you want to
make a "shortcut" from, then "right click" and select "create
shortcut ". Then, copy the shortcut to where you want it in the
    "Start Menu" folder.

    9) Sounds complicated, but it is fairly basic for anyone that is
    familiar with "Windows Explorer. "

    10) With this method, you may add additional folders and shortcuts
    to the "Start Menu. "

    11) For example, when I click on "Start Menu ", six of my favorite
applications appear at the top, so I don't have to search for them
    after clicking "Programs. "

    Thanks Shrink.
The Seamonkey icon appeared in the list because I check under properties when I right click the start menu to put the mail and browser program up there. I finally got it to work, but the icon for the browser was the same as for IE.
So I created a shortcut and dragged it over to the start bar and dropped it in. That fixed the icon problem and then once I was sure it was working, I removed the check mark in the properties so that the browser and mail would not appear.

OK, I fixed my problem but not the way I wanted to. So let's see if someone knows how to do it the right way.
Right click on Start ->Properties-> put a dot in the Start Menu button->press customize.
you will now see that you have the option to put a browser and mail program on the start menu by putting an X in the box and using the drop down menu to pick a browser and mail program. This is where my problem is. The Seamonkey browser in the drop down list is an old version of my browser. Let me mention that I install these browsers from a zipped program so I do not know how they interact with the registry. In any case, where do I find the source of this incorrect location for my browser so I can change it to the correct location of my new one?

    *** Suggestion ***
    01) Right click on "Start "
    02) Click on "Properties "
    03) Select "Radio Button" named "Classic Start Menu. "
    04) Forget the WindowsXp Jelly Beans and be able to
    navigate using sensible icons.

Thank you my friend. But you have not satisfied my natural curiosity and I would still like to know where those pointers are located for those jellybeans :)
