I downloaded a couple of screensavers from an outfit called 3dPlanesoft, they are called 3d Discovery and Spirit of Fire.
They have excellent graphics and nice features such as clocks that really work! The problem however, is that my computer clearly doesn't like them as much as I do and whilst I don't think there is anything malicious in them they are very difficult to access.
For example, whilst they are installed, if I am running the computer in normal mode, when I go to Display Properties>Screensaver, it hangs and takes a good 5 minutes before the screensaver page activates itself and the same amount of time to change any of the settings.
Of course if I do the same thing in Safe Mode it doesn't hang at all.
I have said above that this is a minor and inconsequential matter not worthy of serious computing time and the more pragmatic of you will say "bin the **** things ".
Well, I could do that but I like the screensavers and there is some serious technical issue involved in the respect that they are clearly conflicting with some other process and it would be interesting (at least to me) to know what that is.
Another manifestation of this is that went I do my daily scans with MBAM, Microsoft security essential and super antispyware, when they reach any of those screensaver files they stop for about 10-15 seconds before moving on to other files.
If anyone out there whose interest in computing is as frivolous as mine has an opinion on this I would be interested to hear it.
Additionally, I have the usual range of diagnostic software (SIW, Everest,HJT, Speccy etc), but does anyone know if there is any piece of software which will easily tell you if a particular programme is in conflict with another particular programme.
    Thanks

    Purchased version or trial version?
    Apparantly it's Adware.

There's no reason for a screensaver to connect to the Internet unless it's downloading adverts or tracking your computer usage.

    See http://www.3planesoft.com/help/faq/

  3. to hide this advert.

    Thanks Tony,
It's purchased. Those FAQs don't really help (Ive got the latest drivers) and there is no obvious attempt to connect to the internet.
If it is adware, would there be any telltale files in the relevant folder (all the screensavers have their own sub-files in Program Files.
    Thanks for your time.
