My XP Pro computer has been a happy camper for a good while now. However, it has started to make a sound when the screensaver starts. The sound is like a short ascending crescendo. My Control Panel/ Sounds menu is already set to No Sounds (you can see where my personal "sounds" preferences are).

I checked the screen Properties/ Screensaver menu and nothing there about sounds. Any clues??

    Thanks. Lar

Hi, standard windows screensaver. Some are pics that he have had for months, so there have been no changes in that regard.

If you didn't scroll down the list of the "No Sounds" scheme, go ahead and check it to make sure nothing's been enabled.

I've seen random sounds mysteriously enabled under different schemes, including the "No Sounds" one. I've decided to blame it on a psychotic Windows update.

I have been all over the web to try and find out what is the cause
of this but found nothing. All I can suggest is a system restore.

sorry I couldn't be any more helpful Larry

Thank you to all and to all a good night.

Oh, by the way, I checked out what Miz said and something indeed had activated one item within No Sounds (nicknamed Almost No Sounds). The Start Navigation line under windows Explorer had a speaker icon by it. Cleared it. All better. Thanks!!

Uh oh. One step back. It did it again today without any symbols in the No Sounds list. So, back to square one. I will keep experimenting.

I tried the Power Schemes for the monitor but those did not trigger the sound either. Also, I went through all of the listed wav files in the Sounds library and "my" sound was not there!!
