    The boot is kinda slow for a 1g AMD computer yet once I hit the XP Welcome screen the problem occurs ...From then on my computer runs slowly and if I use more then 2 programs at once or even times when a program loads etc ...My comp freeszes for about 1-3 minutes long about every 20 seconds ...alot of games and programs will not run on my computer due to this lack of "power" ...My computer specs

    1 g AMD Thunderbird 2
    Maxtor 30g 7200
    QDI Legend via
    TNT2/ Pro Vid Card

    I'm not too sure why this is happening never happend b4 ...!
    I belive it shouldn't take 10 mintues to load up and 10 to do each simple task ...

    Please help

    Thanks in advanced!

    I don't know how much you know so if this stuff is more basic than you need, feel free to ignore it. :)

    The first thing to look at are the programs running in the background...usually, but not always, give themselves away by putting an icon in the system tray. Stop them from loading on startup in each program's preferences or options if you can. If not, stop them in msconfig. I personally prefer to start the ones I want manually rather than waiting during a long bootup.

    Next thing to try is AdAware, which you can get from Lavasoft. Spyware can really hose a system's resources.

    Please post back and let us know if things improved.

    r u shure that isn't virus???;

    try using the system mantenance aplications...;

    u may have conflits with your drivers..;

    it's not your computer, and winxp shouldn't be doing that...;

    try to remember at what time that started to happen; did u install anything before? is it like that since u install winxp?

    if everething fails install it all over again

    if they send a computer guy to fix a car, the computer guy would turn of the car and start it again, trying to fix the problem (little joke) :)

    Do you have SP1 installed?

    I have come across many people who have had their systems slow right down since installing SP1. This also applies to slowness when trying to run apps.

    I think there used to be issues with AMD and TNT2 chipsets, but that was a few years ago. Maybe your display drivers need updating? I had to update mine when I went to XP Pro, and the system seemed to run much smoother.
