I attempted to open my command prompt by first clicking on the start menu shortcut, then tried opening it through the Run option but they both do nothing. I will get the circular revolving load icon for a second or two then it will go back to the normal pointer and nothing will happen. I looked around to find ways of fixing it but still nothing works. If anyone knows of any solutions to this problem it would be very helpful. Thank you very much for your time.

I have run a complete scan of my computer with my virus program, it came up with no problems. My computer runs fine and all programs are working except for the command prompt, so I doubt it is a virus. I have yet to try it in safe mode let me do that and get back to you.

Try searching for a file called "cmd.exe" on your computer. If you can't find one, you may have repair your Windows installation.

A search for cmd.exe comes up with the command prompt icon, so it is there. Should I repair anyway?

I was able to boot safe mode with command prompt, let me try booting in basic safe mode and bring command prompt up. I really hope I don't have a virus. I just got over disinfecting two computers with spyware a few months ago and I am sick of it. :[

I have Norton and it hasn't detected anything but I know some viruses are able to trick anti-virus software, so I will look into Spybot (one of the sites I looked at before this one actually mentioned that program).

Command prompt worked in safe mode, came up fine but was not in a window it was there full screen (this is actually the first time I have ever tried booting command prompt since I purchased Windows 7, and Vista's was always in a window even in safe mode).

yeah, virus really are so annoying... sometimes u have to try differnt virus scanner to remove it, sometimes u have to check registry to totally kill it... it depends on their behavior... really challenging.... heheh :)

Ok, just did the Spybot scan and it only found a bunch of cookies which I got rid of. That's two virus scans both coming up with nothing. Could it be disabled somehow (not necessarily a virus' doing)? Thanks again, and goodnight it's 3AM over here, class in the morning guess this will have to wait.

So I was able to bring up Command Prompt but I had to edit the way the program opens. If I go into command prompt's properties I am able to edit the way it runs. As long as that is set to minimized it will come up, first minimized but I can then open the window and view it. But, if I set it t normal window or maximized nothing happens. Any idea if this could still be a virus?

Try repairing it. Doubt it's a virus. Sounds more like a OS issue.

I cannot remember how to repair it. Can I do it internally or do I need to download a program before I can repair command prompt?
