Resolved cannot burn dvd

I have a dell 8300.I replaced my cd drive with a dvd rom compact disc rewritable ultra speed.Now I can't burn dvd's,it says i have the wrong disk in when I go to burn from Sonic Record Now ver.6.Which I bought their upgrade for burning dvd's in Photo Story 3.I had no drivers except what was on my puter when I bought it.When I go to device manager dvd/cd rom drives, this is what it has:hl-dt-st-cdrw gce-8483b,driver verison 5.1.2535.0,hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4482b.Do I need to upgrade if so how and what?

You might want to check out the Dell web site to see if there are drivers that you can update for your system.

or may be that you're burning software is not set to default to your new drive...
check it out, you may be just have to set it.

 

I know I sound stupid,but how do I check to see if my software is set to default drive. I tried again to burn this is what came up: create a dvd: Drive HL-DT-ST-CDRW (D does not contain the appropiate type of recordable dvd disc.To continue,insert a supported recordable dvd disc into the drive and then click ok. I put a different dvd-r in and same thing. HELP!!!!!

 

I'm maybe not seeing something here but you don't have a DVD writer from the model numbers posted.

The hl-dt-st-cdrw gce-8483b is CD RW and the hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4482b is a CD writer but can only read DVDs.

Your post "dvd rom compact disc rewritable" also suggests you only have a DVD ROM (read only) drive.

Wildfire you were right I did not have a dvd writer. I replaced that one with dvd writer now I now can burn dvd.Thanks a lot for the help.

If you're not sure of the capabilities of an optical drive in the future use Nero's Info Tool.
