    Hello~All,
Last week end, after MS updates, I've lost all wireless connectivity on my laptop ////v2630us///xp home hp compaq presario...Has always worked flawlessly!!

I tried to update the driver on HP's site....but all their files are FTP servers...I can't d/l anything from them...this is the file - sp42780.exe..that updates the broadcom wlan driver....Their help chat is ****** useless ***** ! they have no idea what to do...suggest reformatting the drive!!! Oh. sure!!!! That'll fix everything!!

Is there something within my laptop AND desktop connectivity, that won't allow me to d/l from FTP sites? I've tried from both systems....times out in all browsers IE or FF...
I've tried deleting one by one the MS miseries (updates) to see if any of them destroyed my wireless!! Still NO wireless...
I've uninstalled all wireless adaptors and reinstalled...NO wireless!!!!!!!!!!!
    and the wlan itself....NO wireless...

    Since I can't d/l the updated version , I "m stuck with NO wireless...
    Suggestions welcomed.
    John in Dallas.

Hi John, I have no experience with wireless connections, but have you tried through Device Manager to uninstall the wireless drivers, shut down and reboot to see if the system reinstalls itself? Neil.

John, Try running the file instead of downloading it. Just a shot in the dark but might work.

I downloaded it just fine so perhaps your Security settings won't permit .exe files???

If the above fails, post back and I'll link you to the downloaded file that I got from HP.

    Thanks - suferdude2,
I d/l exe files all the time, I'm unaware of any security settings that needed changed? I couldn't "run" the file either...Only d/l from the HP site is allowed...I'll try your link and see what happens,,thanks.

If you had System Restore enabled, give that a shot at rolling the system back to before you did those updates last week-end.

That applies to any other backups you may have, if you have any, it's time to call on them.

I also have a HP laptop dv6125se and also lost the WiFi connection. Reading the HP documents I found that de probable cause it´s a out of date Bios. HP recomends installing de F42 version whose file is sp42854. Go to Hp support and find what it says about your model and serial

    Good luck

You say you lost your wireless connection. What happens? Exactly what steps do you go through to connect, and what occurs when you try?

Is the wireless connection icon in the notification area next to the clock on the Taskbar? When you right-click it and click to Show available connections, are there any showing?

Is the wireless switch turned on, on the computer itself? Many laptops have an on/off switch or button on the front or side to turn wireless on or off. Some also have a Function key (Fn key) combination to enable and disable wireless.

    WiFi dissapeared

I haven´t flashed the new bios (f42) because i don´t feel confident enough so i will carry my laptop to a technician. In relation to the other questions, i say:
    • I did have the icon and now i don´t
The wireless switch is the on position but it has a red light instead of the former green light.
In the available options now i only have local connections (2), a 1394 connection and no wireless connection

By the way, i run in my HP the download page for your presario and it has the bios F.52 (check if the one your laptop have installed is a previous version)

I hope someone with more expertise can help you

    ===============================================

    Glen and All,
I've tried ALL suggestions in these posts....other than flash the bios, since I can't d/l any of the fixes on HP site, i'm NOT getting anywhere!!

I find it very strange, I can't d/l these files??? It seems both my desktop Dell and the HP laptop will NOT d/l these files....FTP must be the problem somewhere...I find nothing in services that pertains to FTP d/l??
OR firefox or IE that needs turning ON??

I'd like to find from HP what the FN keys do??? I know they have functions-perhaps, I've done something to de activate wireless....The manual doesn't address these keys nor can I find anything on HP sites that describe them???

However, I feel the trouble is the broadcom wylan driver...when I reinstall the wylan, it doesn't stay in wireless networks...just vanishes?
windows can't repair since it can't find it???
SurferDude,,,,zipped up the file and I did install it....However, I can't find it,,it doesn't show up in " " "wireless networks" "" as being updated???

Next step....taking the laptop somewhere I know they have wireless and see if I can connect....will show if it's the laptop or my 2wire nat router....If I can use a wifi card, that might work??? Although, 2wire is sold only via ISP's, they say most usb or pc cards might NOT work with the router??? They sell their own types....
The saga continues!!!! Such is the life in computers!!!

    Hi Lon and Glen,
reading the posts of the 2 links of hp forums provided by Glenn I think that changing the mobo had been the only workable solution -up to know-Also that i now understand why HP got so low in the comparison of laptop makers
As soon as the technician review my laptop i wil tell you what come out
    Regards

    John,
Give me the link to the site where you can't download....the ftp site you say won't let you download anything.
Also, what do you see there on the screen, and how are you trying to get the file...what steps are you taking?

Click Start> Control Panel> Network Connections.
    Click the View menu> Details.
Tell me what devices are listed there, and their Status.

Regarding the Function keys (F1, F2, and so forth), they should have little pictures on them to show what they control when pressed in combination with the Fn key. If you don't see a picture of a Wireless antenna with curved lines around it on any of them, then you just have the switch on the computer to turn wireless on and off.

    Hi-Glen,
Thanks so much for trying to help...below is the URL I'm directed...

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1838816

From there I select what I'm looking....IE the broadcom wylan driver..Even hp chat could NOT tell me why I couldn't d/l that or any files... The only option there is to d/l only....the d/l button or click on the file...neither work?
    The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
.....this is the response from FF....IE just says can't load page?
    However, surferdude zipped up the wylan driver " "" "sp42780.exe" "" "
I was able to unzip it and it " " "went" "" somewhere? It sure didn't replace the OEM wylan software? Which tells me it didn't install correctly??
I put in all my wireless settings, restart and find they've disappeared, windows xp can't repair or even setup a network??

I've un installed and reinstalled everything relating to wireless,,nothing helps...Done restore and recovery modes....NO wireless....What's broken?? I've uninstalled all the MS updates Feb. , that's when this occurred.
I've yet gone to a wireless " "hotsopt" " to check if it's the laptop or my nat router...
    Thanks for your help.

Your firewall or hosts file may be blocking the download, I don't know. That's something better looked at in a malware forum where logs showing what's going on can be examined.

You haven't answered this part of my last reply yet:
Click Start> Control Panel> Network Connections.
    Click the View menu> Details.
Tell me what devices are listed there, and their Status.
