Hi Pete(Digger), I'm pretty sure I tried the Vista drivers but the Radeon 9800 was not on the compat list at MS for Win7 RC. I might have another look to see if there has been a change. Thanks Neil.:)

Hi ,yes I know, but at the risk of going too far off-topic ,I suggest you PM me.
I will say this : The official list doesn't have this driver listed.
It's an unlisted driver that cannot be found on either the ATI or M$ site,
but was used when installing Vista on a machine that had an ATI Radeon graphics card .
Also ,since Win7RC is now being crippled by 2-hourly shutdowns ,it has almost become immaterial.

I found the practice of M$ somewhat ignorant. On one of my machines MS applied a driver that they knew was not compatible with Win7RC.
So I was informed that there was no better driver.Except ,when I started searching ,there was a more compatible driver - the one used in Vista.
But noooooo, they couldn't apply that one.
    Sorry,but that stinks
Looks to me like a plot to make you buy either a new graphics card or a new computer ;(

    Pete.

The Poll does not appear to allow for multiple selections. In my case, I have a Desktop and a Laptop with Windows XP SP3 and also another Desktop and Laptop using Vista.

I have purchased two copies of Windows 7 and plan to upgrade one Desktop and one Laptop next week while on Vacation.

I've been using XP Pro (now SP3) on my desktop and on my various IBM T series laptops since 2002, and have been very happy with it. When I replace the desktop, I'll graduate to Win 7 or whatever flavor of Windows MS is pushing at the time.

    reluctantly running...

    ... Windows 7 64bit.

I was perfectly happy with XP, but the PC died. I didn't realize how Windows 7 now arbitrarily refuses to run so very many of my old favorite utilites that worked fine on XP. But after much time and effort - managed to find replacements for most.

ALL BUT for the EPSON Scanner.. EPSON is refusing to do a 64bit driver upgrade, though they have them for all printers and the newest scanners.

    Bob
P.S. Epson is that company that has the ink catridges with a 'smart chip' that decrements even though you don't use that color ink.. Looking for recommendations to buy a new scanner from a company that supports their products.

    Scanner

    Bob,

I have an HP all in one and, while it took them some time, they did come out with a driver that's compatible with Windows 7. Hope that information helps.

I am running xp and vista

I have XP on my netbook and I won't change that because there is a rescue system setup, and I like XP. I recieved XP preloaded on my laptop, but decided to install Vista to try it out and keep up with what's new. I like some of the features of Vista, but XP wins for ease of use and compatability with my present programs. I have curiosity about windows7 but I'll wait before I change again.

Hi, No need to buy a higher priced version just for "XP Mode ".

You may want to read this:

Win 7's XP Mode And VirtualBox: When You Need Windows XP
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/virtual-xp-virtualbox,2418.html

Advantage of XP Mode Over VMWare or VirtualBox?
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/521-63-advantage-mode-vmware-virtualbox

You will see that there is no advantage in getting this XP Mode, apart from some shortcuts on the Win7 desktop.
IMHO VirualBox is much better and free .;)

Microsoft's only stable operating system is Windows XP. To die this os will take some time. And also requesting to Microsoft to not to stop the support for XP.

 As I stated before I really like Win7 for it's hands off network setup. It found every device I own and connected with no input from me.

I am really disappointed at the lack of compatibility and support in the 64bit version for older devices and programs. I'm not talking about "old old" stuff either. I have a Zonet webcam that might be a year old or so but I can't find a digitally signed driver to get an image from it. The software looks nice though.

I accept that I can't play games from 5 or 6 years ago, but it seems like the number of programs that I already own and ran fine on XP, won't even install on new system.
