    Hi all

I have a windows xp machine and a My Book World Edition western digital HDD which is 1tb

was wondering, we have team iof around 3 people who regularly need to access the hard drive. Even do things like placing images to the external hdd(this hasnt been done but would like it to be done)

problem is, the hard drive has its own software which we aint keen on installing on all PC. i can map the network drive for one of the folders within the external hard drive.

when i type the hard drives IP address, i get to the hard drives software and not the data part where i can store all my data

question is, how can i setup so i can easily transfer files to the external hard drive from home/
remote location? only way i can get access to hard drive from the host pc is by mapping network drive, so will need to conect to pc first and then map the network drive again at the remote pc?

unless theirs something else i can do with the hard drive?

If you are using Remote Desktop Connection, click the Options button and then the Local Resources tab. In there you can have the local drives available in the session. Just copy/paste. You will be able to see the local (as mapped drives) and remote drives in My Computer.

If you are happy to remove the software and reformat (or repartition) it so that it works like a "normal" drive

You might just need to uninstall the software in Add or Remove Programs. (If it is actually installed...or does it run an installer?)

Do you put in the address like this:
    \\192.168.1.10\E$
    ?

You might need to stop it from using Autorun.
