I recently purchased a copy of Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 for the .pdf creation and file modification capabililties, that I've been wanting for quite a while now. That installation seemed to go fine, but when I attempted to load a .pdf document off of a website through my internet browser, the page wouldn't load and reported some sort of conflict (sorry, but I should have made a specific note of the dialog box error message).

I uninstalled the Acrobat Standard 6.0 application, and as I suspected it would, that cleared up the problem with the browser conflict. I'm running Acrobat Reader 9.3.1 and there's obviously some problem in getting these programs to run properly while installed on the same computer. Any suggestions on options that may be available? Options that are realistically not on the table:
    • Just forget about using the functionality of the Acrobat Standard
    • Scrounge up the money to purchase a more recent version of Acrobat Standard
    • Just stop trying to access .pdf files off the internet via my browser
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    CDobyns,

    Reinstall Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0.

The problem could be that you have Adobe Acrobate Standard 6.0 set to open .PDF files automatically.
You can change this by Start -> Settings - Control Panel then double click on Folder Options.
Click on the File Types scroll down until you see PDF under the Extensions.
Look at the Details for 'PDF" Extension.
Does it show Adobe Acrobate Standard 6.0 ?
You can change this to Acrobat Reader 9.3.1 by clicking on the Change button then selecting
Acrobat Reader 9.3 then press OK
