Best of all worlds. 1 computer running XP Pro, 1 computer running Vista Ultimate, and 1 computer running Win7 Home Premium until I can upgrade it to Win7 Pro (the Win7 is the 64-bit version). So far I am impressed with Win7.

I just surf the web, do some banking and read lots of email and blog a little. Also love saving and playing with photographs. Which W7 would be best for this?

I'm living under a rock as far as knowing good from bad.
I have XP home and I like it so far.
I'll change to 7 or whatever else when it becomes necessary.

Although you could get a Starter Edition (on some netbooks) you will
be fine with the Win7 Home Premium Upgrade version.
Too bad you couldn't swing it last year.
Pre-sale for that version was US$49 in July/Aug. if I remember correctly .

well i run about all versions of the os windows on my machines from win xp up to 7 x64 and i must say i start to like the 7-x64.
most hardware runs smooth with it cause most drivers are available, and more and more things runs without an issue.
But i still seem to keep having a problem with my desktop items when i reboot my machine they appear black, so i have to delete the icon cache and restart explorere.exe to fix this very annoying. I am not sure if its related to my ssd drive because when i installed 7 on it i have this problem.
But to be honest i think this os is very promising when the errors and little annoyances are fixed

3 on XP Home 1 on XP Pro and the wife on XP Home Plus Laptop on XP Home. Tried Win7 RC and liked it but cannot afford to change as it didn't like my graphics card.
Have tried ME and previously used 98 & SE but XP is far more stable. Neil.:D

Hi Neil, Although we're almost 14,000 km apart :) ,I see a few similarities with the OS usage.
I tried Win7RC on an older system - P4 2.6 GHz ,1GB RAM and ATI Radeon 9000.Ran just fine except for BSOD on shutdown, due to video drivers.
M$ changed the driver to so-called compatible ,but resulted in blue screen.
All it took was manually installing the Vista driver for this card.
Mind you ,no Aero Glass, but otherwise works just great, considering being
    a much older (2002) system.
Actually I've seen people running Win7 on even lower spec systems.

    Pete.

 Windows 7 on a new mid-line e-machine desktop (E5300 dual core processor). I was finally able to create/see all my other devices (2 laptops and 2 wireless printers) on a network without having to do a single thing other than plugging in to my router. I could never get a network to run w/ WinXP.

I did have to use 50 ft. cat5 cable to directly link the desktop to my router because the older but never used e-Home wireless card wouldn't work with Win7. My system sees the wireless card but I just have never been able to find the right fix to make it work. At any rate, I'm happy with the hardwire connection for now.

Not at all what I was lead to believe. Much better than Vista. Well Done ;)

Still some confusion with some applications though. We'll get there.

Been using XP Pro for a long time on my main computer and I am very satisfied.

A while back got a new laptop with Vista. Since I had tried Vista on my spare computer and was not happy at all, I redone my laptop to XP Pro.

Also tried Windows 7 on my spare computer and I think I might like it. Been thinking about getting a second laptop and having Windows 7 put on it.

Conclusion: I am very satisfied with XP

I am running xp on my netbook and desktop while using windows 7 on my main computer, my toshiba laptop. I like the new windows 7 although most familiar with xp. I've run into compatibility issues with windows 7, especially Microsoft Outlook 7. Because of the compatibility issue with Outlook I've uninstalled Microsoft Office 2007 and gone exclusively with OpenOffice, Mozilla Thunderbird & Mozilla Lightning. All is well now.

No doubt I will try W7 at some stage, just haven't had a good look at it yet. I must live a very sheltered (boring) life!

    Hi Keith,
That's a label you put on yourself ;) - if you feel that way maybe you could
explore new stuff.may make life more interesting ;)

On the other hand, don't let public opinion sway you to use software you don't want at this time.
People are very quick to judge and call you a luddite or even moron if you dare use an older OS or software.
Use what you want.If it serves your purpose and works for you, sofar as I'm concerned you can use Win95 or 98.
Only be aware that some things may not work because of outside updates,
whether internet or interaction with software.

Otherwise ,my motto is ,Live and let live ;)

    Pete.
