    Hello
I am running a small network with a Windows 2000 server and 4 workstations
    all running Windows 2000 Pro.
What would be the most economical yet secure way to implement antiviral
    protection.
Any suggestions as far as specific software.
I could install Norton's Antivirus software on the workstations but it does not install on the server, right???
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I actually stumbled across this neat AV program called Kasperskywww.kaspersky.com It was originally written for linux networks. This piece of software can be installed on every computer on the network including the server. What you can do is set the primary computer on the network that does all the routing for your Internet connection as the primary updater. and then point all the client machines to the server. Now what will happen is that the server will connect to the internet and download the latest update and then the clients will update from your local server. I sure cuts down on Internet usage time. Now the primary computer can even be a client if you want it to be, that is totally your call. Kaspersky also has less options to configure. Plus if a computer is infected you can create rescue disks that run in a linux temp OS as it scans all you do is put in the disks in order and the program asks for very little input.

You should check out http://www.grisoft.com/ for the AVG antivirus. Its a free solution for home users and a low cost solution for businesses (i think 210 for 10 users). Even tho its a low cost I and many others (from the Tech Republic bbs) enjoy it even more than some of hi-end brand names

    Hope this helps
