Well I am setting in Houston at MD Anderson Cancer center with the wife. I have my new laptop with me and surfing the web in a hotel room. Only one problem. For the life of me I cannot get the thing configured to let me know when I recieve an email. I have NS set as the default mail program but the only way I can get my email is to launch the program and click GET MAIL. Any XP/NS grus out there

    Thanks

    Hi erg,

You have to leave the Netscape Mail window open in order to receive Mail Notification. I hope that is changed in the next upgrade!

You should not, however, have to click on "Get Msgs ". In your Preferences |Mail & Newsgroups Settings | Server Settings
have you enabled "Automatically download any new messages "?

One more strange thing is when I click on inbox or others in MAIL the dang hour glass ( wait ) just stays up. Only way to get rid of it is to close MAIL and reopen.

    Hi erg,

    With Netscape closed:

Open Windows Explorer and browse to your Mail Folder.
    Delete the Inbox.msf file.
Open Netscape, and try your Mail again.

It may be necessary to delete all *.msf files in your Mail Folder.

If this doesn't work, let us know.

Thanks Ramona. This laptop has XP and I liked to never found Explorer. Now that I did I cannot find MAIL in Netscape. My mind is not real sharp right now so could you give me the path. When I find Netscape and click the + to expand I cannot find anything that refers to INBOX or MAIL.

    Thanks

No problem at all. The path to the Profiles folder is a bit different in XP:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail

I assume you have enabled "Automatically download any new messages" in Preferences then?

Post back if this doesn't work.

Oh heck! What I should have added is that these file are hidden by default in Windows XP. I'm sorry I left that out!
