I have a new Asus netbook with installed windows XP home and sp3. This is a legal factory install. I can not connect to the download center. I get a connection refused message. I also have a legitimate win 7 on a desktop that also has the same problem.. I am attached to a router and cable modem. Cat5 to the desktop and wireless to the netbook. Any help appreciated.

    cable modem
    linksys wireless router
    win 7
    XP home SP3
    IE8 on both
    Seamonkey2.0.3 on both
    Avast Free on both

Just a silly question - have you Registered and Activated both? Are you using IE8 as your browser? Neil.

Forget I asked about browser - didn't read your side info.

MY problem turned out to be the firewall in the router. When updating the netbook from another wireless network all went fine. Now to do some reading to see how to properly configure the firewall. Thanks for the replies. I didn't think of pinging but will if similar problems in future. I'm also having trouble communicating thru a wireless bridge. Proxy problem. More reading!!
