Hi, I'm a recent migrant from XP SP 2 to Windows 7 (Home Premium 64-bit), and I ran into a sort-of unusual problem.
Previously, in windows XP, if I opened a .pspimage file from Explorer, with Paint Shop Pro running, it would open up the file in the currently-running instance of Paint Shop Pro. Now, however, it opens a new instance of PSP.

I found the way to fix this problem if it occurred to someone in Windows XP, as described here: http://pspug.org/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl/Blah.pl?m-1241577682/ , but that set of instructions does not directly apply to Win7, and I don't know what the equivalent is. Much Obliged!

Edit: To be more specific, I'm using Paint Shop Pro v8- and I can't afford to simply upgrade to a Win7-compatible version.

I use psp7 and noticed this behavior as well. I just drag & drop files to the current psp window. However, I rarely ever save images in psp format, only for backups of originals.

Oh yes, thank you for reminding me. I can't drag-and-drop files into PSP 8, either. (I tried running the program both in and out of XP SP2 compatibility mode, as that seems to change some basic behaviors in other programs, but no dice)

That's strange because PSP 7.04 works just fine on Windows 7. Can you rt click a file > open with > select PSP from list? (if not listed use browse button and navigate to program files/.../psp.exe)

I suspect you may be misunderstanding me? Yes, I can RC->'open with' a .pspimage file, and it opens PSP.
In fact, my system is already configured to open .pspimages in Paint Shop Pro when double-clicked, or single-click + enter'd.

The first problem is that every double-clicked file opens a new copy of Paint Shop Pro. The second is that I can't drag files of any type into a running copy of Paint Shop Pro- the only way to open multiple files in a single copy of PSP is through File->Open

I do understand what you said.
But I can drag+drop multiple images of any supported format into 1 PSP window and they will all open in that single instance of PSP, as they did in XP. Of course, I am using PSP 7.x. Version 8.x and upward got too bloated for my liking and some changes were made to certain functions that I didn't really like. I had tested version 8 on a friend's system, afterwhich I decided to stick with version 7.

I'm not running PSP in XP mode either, version 7 installed just fine on Windows 7.

To edit the command used to open PSP files in Win 7 you will can use the free utility FileTypesMan. This is similar to the File Types tab in XP Folder Options. No install necessary, just unzip and execute. Use it to verify the /DDE parameter is being used or to add that parameter as described in the link you posted.

Hm. Tony, are you running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of 7?
