    Hi,

I have been leaving my W2k box on and online ever since i have W2k. Lately, after my modem handshakes, it freezes on me. Why does it happen? Are there ways to prevent it?

Its a new modem with the latest driver. I occasionaly reboot my machine. I hope to hear from someone soon.

I used to have that kind of problem when I was using win98se and the way that I corrected the problem is have akeep alive ping tool active or set the modem to disconnect after a period of no data being received. You can find keep alive tools all over the net. The one I used was in a program called Genius. It is a kool little app that you can set a keep alive ping as often as you want it to ping. The other thing is to check your events when it freezes and see what is happening. There is also the possibility that it could be a mobo driver that is required for modems.

Things to check in no particular order:
    1. Event Log
    2. See if the mobo requires a special driver
    3. Keep Alive tool or auto disconnect

    Please post your findings.
